From North to South, Kashmir observes Shutdown against Civilian Killings; Desecration of Jamia Masjid Srinagar


Srinagar : A complete shutdown is being observed on Saturday across Kashmir to protest against civilian killings and the desecration of Jamia Masjid.

The Joint Resistance Leadership (JRL) comprising Syed Ali Geelani, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, and Yasin Malik had called for a valley-wide shutdown on today.

While as , All the business establishments, government, and private offices are closed, while public transport remained off the roads. All the educational institutions were closed across Kashmir.

However, contingents of paramilitary forces were deployed in various parts including old city areas, where the situation remains tense following the killing of a youth namely Kaiser Ahmed, who was ploughed down by the Central Reserve Police Force vehicle in the old city area of Nowhatta during protests on Friday.

Mobile Internet service was suspended in Srinagar and Budgam districts early Saturday as a precautionary measure, a police officer said.

While as , The speed of broadband Internet connections was also been brought down to prevent uploading of “provocative posts and pictures.”

However, Railway authorities decided to suspend train services in Kashmir Valley on Saturday in wake of the strike called by Joint Resistance Leadership (JRL).

Meanwhile, No untoward incident was reported from North and South Kashmir .
